Golden Globes 2023 Will Include Two More Awards For Supporting Actors!

Since last years ceremony wasnt broadcast on any network or streaming service, the Golden Globe Awards have come under assault in recent years.

Following a backlash for its conspicuous lack of diversity in 2021, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) has been excitedly implementing adjustments with the aim of rebranding and shedding its rather racist reputation.

The Voting Body Has Been Expanded by 103 Members

As previously reported, in order to reach parity, the voting body has been expanded by 103 members. As of this writing, the membership is 52 percent female and 51.5 percent racially and ethically diverse. It is the first time that voters from other countries have been let into the voting body, which currently has representation from 62 nations worldwide.

They Have Also Chosen To Raise Prices in The TV Supporting Actor Categories!

But the ceremony is also changing in other ways. They have also chosen to raise prices in the TV supporting actor categories, according to The Hollywood Reporter, in an effort to draw in more viewers.

Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress Series, Miniseries, or Motion Picture used to be the categories for supporting actors in TV. In the future, they will divide these into two categories, with two awards each for Series, Musical Comedy or Drama and Limited Series/Anthology or Motion Picture.

There Will Be Four Supporting Actors

Instead of two awards, there will be four for supporting actors, giving the shows stars more time on stage and, they hope, drawing in more viewers. The strange thing about this is that they took their time separating these acting categories and adding additional prizes while yet lumping both comedy and drama together.

If the Oscars are any indication, comedic performances are perceived very differently from drama ones. Even though it often seems unfair to group comedy and drama together, the nominees will still get more chances to perform on stage.
