James Gunn advises fans to "calm down" as "Peacemaker" Season 2 appears to be in good hands.

Even though it was just reported that Warner Bros. had halted “Batgirl” from being released on the streamer or in theaters, James Gunn is assuring DC fans that “Peacemaker” Season 2 is proceeding without a hitch at HBO Max. When it launched at the beginning of 2022, “Peacemaker,” a spinoff of Gunn’s film “The Suicide Squad,” featuring John Cena in the lead character, was a great smash for HBO Max. In February, a second season was formally confirmed.

After hearing of “Batgirl’s” fate, one fan tweeted, “Is ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 safe? Yes, folks, relax, Gunn said. A behind-the-scenes image from the “Peacemaker” Season 2 set was later shared by the director. The picture depicts Emilia Harcourt, played by actress Jennifer Holland, eating a salad with fake blood all over her face. The lesson learned is that “Peacemaker” Season 2 is still being produced and everything is still progressing as planned.

HBO Max’s future has been cast into doubt for viewers as reports regarding its potential merger with Discovery+ have persisted. Many have questioned whether HBO Max is in trouble as a result of the recent decisions to drop “Batgirl” and covertly remove additional Warner Bros. movies off the streamer. Additionally, there have been reports that HBO Max may reduce its scripted content. Gunn believes that “Peacemaker” is “safe” and is continuing with Season 2.

According to sources who spoke with Variety

The decision to cancel “Batgirl” had nothing to do with the movie’s quality; rather, it was made because the studio wanted its DC movie lineup to be on a blockbuster size, which “Batgirl” was not because it was created particularly for HBO Max. Tax incentives were also a factor in the decision to scrap the film, too.

On the same day in August 2021, HBO Max and cinemas both presented Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” for the first time. Strong praise for the movie led to Cena becoming the lead in the “Peacemaker” spinoff series in January 2022. After the first season wrapped in February, Gunn talked with Variety to give fans a sneak peek at what Season 2 will bring.

When asked at the time, Gunn replied, “I know where ‘Peacemaker’ starts and where he finishes, but I’m experimenting with other concepts around that and how that’s going to play out. John and I waited to decide on a second season because we wanted to be sure it was something we truly wanted and loved doing. It’s being disclosed now because we had to finalize everything, which is why. It wasn’t a question of like, yeah, we’re picked up; I didn’t commit to a second season right away. I simply wanted to be sure that it was something I genuinely wanted to accomplish.
