A few days after The CW and Warner Bros. Television announced that The Flash will end with its upcoming ninth season, Grant Gustin, who plays Barry Allen and the title character, posted a video about the “bittersweet” news.
In the video posted to Instagram, he said, “It’s been an amazing almost 10 years playing this character and being a part of this show with an amazing cast and crew and so much love from you guys, the fans, and people who love the show.” “It’s the only reason we’ve been able to last as long as we have, and I’m really glad we get to do this one more time and end on our own terms. I’m going to make the most of every minute of it.”

Gustin then told the fans how much they meant to him. “I couldn’t be more proud to be linked to this character, probably for the rest of my life and career. It really is a great honor. I hope this last season is fun for you. I know I’m going to enjoy making it.” Watch the video above to see what he said in full.

The Flash’s last season will start on The CW in 2023 and have 13 episodes. It is the longest-running Arrowverse show, going into its ninth season. In 2020, Arrow’s eighth and last season, which only had 10 episodes, came to an end. In 2021, Black Lightning ended after four seasons, Supergirl ended with its sixth season, and both Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow were canceled in 2022 after three and seven seasons, respectively. The third season of Superman & Lois will start in 2023, and as we’ve already seen, it will take place on a different Earth.
