Where Was Traitors Filmed: The Traitors, a brand-new reality series hosted by Strictly’s Claudia Winkleman, debuted on BBC One this week. Before the saboteurs kill them off one at a time, the show gives 22 strangers the responsibility of figuring out who among them is the traitor.
In this game of skill and cunning, the winner will take home £120,000, so there is a lot to play for. However, more than only the idea has the attention of viewers. The participants are situated in a magnificent castle, which adds to the breathtaking setting.
Where Was Traitors Filmed?
The participants of The Traitors lived in Ardross Castle, a 19th-century location 25 miles north of Inverness, where the show was taped in the Scottish Highlands. The majority of the filming took place inside the castle and on its grounds, with challenges happening nearby.
The Scottish Baronial-style building, which boasts over 100 acres of parkland on the bank of the River Alness, served as the first Duke of Sutherland’s hunting lodge in the past. The McTaggart family currently owns it after purchasing the estate in 1983 and restoring the grounds and estate.
For more information, see the Ardross Castle website or the RadioTimes Travel guide to Scottish castle visits. If you want to recreate your own game of The Traitors, Ardross Castle is available to hire for opulent business retreats and as a wedding location. Host Claudia Winkleman remarked on filming in Scotland that she had “never been anyplace more gorgeous” than the Highlands.
If that doesn’t sound corny, she added that at times it seemed as though we were in a painting. “On day two, we witnessed a double rainbow, which caused everyone to exclaim “Oh my god!” and the crew to start sobbing. There were also newborn deer, gorgeous heather, old trees, and a historic lake. Each of us was clicking photos.
“You’ve never seen anything like that, it’s wonderful,” I told my kids through FaceTime. On day four, there had already been three further double rainbows. After three weeks, after we had seen 50 people, it was like, “I don’t care.” But the scenery is absolutely breathtaking.
Can You Visit the Castle in The Traitors?
Unfortunately, the public cannot visit Ardross Castle. The location, which has more than 30 rooms, may be rented out for a wedding or business function. On the estate’s grounds, you may also reserve activities like guided hikes, mountain bike rentals, and fly fishing on the River Alness.
