The much-anticipated film Oppenheimer, starring Cillian Murphy of Peaky Blinders, has debuted its first teaser.
The brief trailer for Christopher Nolan’s new movie, which debuted today (July 28), has black-and-white footage of Murphy acting as J. Robert Oppenheimer interwoven with a number of voices speaking over fiery scenes.
One voice says, “You gave them the ability to destroy themselves; it made him the most significant man who ever lived.”
The movie tells the tale of the renowned American physicist who was instrumental in the development of the first nuclear bomb during World War II.
Along with Murphy, the movie has an amazing cast that includes Robert Downey Jr. as Lewis Strauss, the chairman of the US Atomic Energy Commission, and Marvel’s Florence Pugh as Jean Tatlock, who has a romantic relationship with Oppenheimer.
The cast also includes Matt Damon as Manhattan Project director Leslie Groves and Emily Blunt as biologist Katherine Oppenheimer.
Josh Hartnett, Gary Oldman, Jack Quaid, Alex Wolff, Benny Safdie, Alden Ehrenreich, Jason Clarke, Matthew Modine, Christopher Denham, and Josh Zuckerman are among the other actors scheduled to appear.
It’s the first time Nolan has put me in a lead, which I’m still a little in shock about, but I’m happy, Murphy said earlier this year while discussing taking on the “big” part.
It takes a lot of labor and plays a big part. You’re in good hands, though, because you’re working with one of the best living filmmakers, in my opinion.
The difference with this one, he continued, is that everyone is aware of what transpired. However, Chris is telling it in a different way than you might anticipate from Chris. All I have to say is that.
