Loretta Lynn Has Died. She Was the First Lady of Country Music

Loretta Lynn, a big name in country music, died at the age of 90. The singer/family songwriter told The Associated Press on Tuesday, October 4, that she had died that morning at her home in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. She was known as the First Lady of Country Music. No one said what caused the death.

Lynn had a stroke in May 2017, which put an end to her touring career. Our precious mom, Loretta Lynn, died peacefully this morning, October 4, while she was sleeping at home on her beloved ranch in Hurricane Mills, the statement said.

The daughter of a coal miner grew up poor in a small town in Kentucky. By the time she started her music career in the 1960s, she already had four children. In 1948, when she was 16, she married Oliver Vanetta Lynn, Jr., also known as Doolittle Mooney Lynn, who was 21 years old at the time. Until he died in 1996, they were married.

Lynn Became a Legend

Lynn became a legend in country music because of her songs about being a woman in Appalachia. These songs often talked about taboo topics at the time. Some of the things that were talked about in her music were divorce, cheating husbands, sex, love, and birth control.

Coal Miners Daughter, You Aint Woman Enough, The Pill, Dont Come Home a Drinkin (With Lovin on Your Mind), Rated X, and Youre Looking at Country are some of her most famous songs.

Lynn had her own style when she was on stage. She wore floor-length gowns with wide skirts that were covered in intricate embroidery and lots of rhinestones. During her decades-long career, she was nominated for 18 Grammys and won three of them.

Lynn was put in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1983, and in 1988, he was chosen for the Country Music Hall of Fame. She was close friends with Patsy Cline, who was a famous country singer who died in 2013. Cline died in a plane crash in 1963, so they were only friends for a few years, but he was Lynns mentor as she became famous.

In the Lifetime movie Patsy & Loretta, the two main characters were played by Megan Hilty and Jessie Mueller. Lynns life and work were also shown in the 1980 movie Coal Miners Daughter, which starred Sissy Spacek. For her role, Spacek won an Oscar.

Lynn was also close with Dolly Parton and other big names in music. In 2004, when she was 72 years old, she put out Van Lear Rose, a studio album she made with Jack White of The White Stripes.
