Matteo Berrettini, an Italian professional tennis player (Italian pronunciation: [matto berretti]; born April 12, 1996), plays the game professionally. He reached the world No. 6 singles ranking by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) in January 2022, and the world No. 105 doubles ranking in July 2019.
Berrettini has won two doubles wins and seven singles titles on the ATP Tour. In the Wimbledon Championships singles final in 2021, he turned in one of his best major performances. As the first and only person born in the 1990s and the first Italian to do so, he has also advanced to the quarterfinals or better at all four Grand Slam tournaments.
Matteo Berrettini Career
At the Italian Open, Berrettini made his ATP main draw debut after winning a wildcard in the pre-qualifying wildcard tournament. In the opening round, he lost to Fabio Fognini. In the eight-man Italian field vying for the final berth in the inaugural Next Generation ATP Finals in Milan, he was the top seed, but he was defeated by Filippo Baldi in straight sets. He won his debut match at the tour level against No. 55 Viktor Troicki after advancing to the 2018 Qatar ExxonMobil Open, where he was rated No. 135.
He qualified for his first Grand Slam tournament at the Australian Open as a fortunate loser for his subsequent match, although he was defeated by No. 27 Adrian Mannarino in the opening round.
Berrettini defeated Roberto Bautista Agut in the championship match at the Swiss Open Gstaad to claim his maiden ATP victory. At the same competition, he and Daniele Bracciali won his maiden ATP doubles championship.
Who Berrettini Is Dating
Having taken pictures of themselves while shopping in Austria, it had been speculated that the couple was becoming fairly close.
While Tomljanovic‘s WTA season was ended, Berrettini was competing in an event in Vienna.
And if that didn’t give everyone a hint, fellow tennis player Maria Sakkari made sure they knew by commenting on the Instagram image with a variety of romantic emoticons.
The two athletes are frequently spotted cheering for their partners at each other’s matches now that their relationship is official.
I feel ten times as stressed watching her match as I do when I’m playing my match, Berrettini remarked. Consequently, I enjoy it when we play together. I completed it first, maybe five minutes early. They weren’t showing the score, and since I’m playing best of five, I wasn’t sure if she had won her match. I reasoned that perhaps she had finished before me and was now arriving.
Who Is Matteo Berrettini’s Girlfriend Ajla Tomljanovic?
Tomljanovic was born in Zagreb, Croatia, on May 7, 1993.
She had only advanced past the second round of one Grand Slam, the 2014 French Open, until 2021.
But despite initially having more doubles roles, she rose to a career-high ranking of 39 in April 2019.
Tomljanovic has reached four finals while competing on the WTA Tour, losing to Dayana Yastremska at the Hua Hin Championships in Thailand in February.
After starting to represent Australia in the 2014 US Open, the tennis pro changed her national allegiance from Croatia to Australia. She had to continue to play for Croatia in non-Grand Slam competitions despite having permanent residency until she was granted full Australian citizenship in January 2018.
A Great Understanding of Each Other Exists Between Berrettini and Tomljanovic
A few months ago, Berrettini underlined the advantages of dating someone who is aware of the Tour’s obligations.
“When I was a teen, I didn’t see myself as a potential tennis star.” As a result, I led a regular adolescent life. I enjoyed my time in Rome for a while, although I didn’t go out much or do anything outrageous. As I developed, I became aware of what a professional tennis player’s life is like, which involves traveling for 10 to 11 months at a time.

The adjustment process is protracted. I’m now dating Tomljanovic, which is great since she gets me and appreciates the challenges of the journey. My family tries to join me on my travels occasionally.
Berrettini continued, “I don’t see them as frequently as I’d want, but they’re happy to see me having fun in this fantasy. Last week, Berrettini made light of the fact that he had permitted Tomljanovic to train with him to avoid a brawl. Rafael Nadal defeated Berrettini in the semifinals of his most recent match at the Australian Open.
