Mushoku Tensei Controversy: Popular isekaianime Mushoku Tensei, also known as Jobless Reincarnation, is based on a light novel and manga series. It relates the tale of a guy in his 30s who dies and is given a second shot at life after being reborn as Rudeus Greyrat, a youngster with magical abilities, in a world of magic.
But is a second opportunity merited for everyone? Even though Mushoku Tensei was a standout of the Winter 2021 Season, not everyone will enjoy it. The program has one especially contentious component that many anime fans find offensive and which even led to its prohibition in China. What actually occurred, then?
The idea of an isekai show
Which transforms a person from a life of meaninglessness into one filled with enchantment, is not exclusive to Mushoku Tensei. Rudeus’ prior existence in the human world was actually plagued by his perversion more than the fact that he hadn’t attained success in the way that contemporary society views it.
This continued even after his reincarnation into a new life since he still remembered everything from the prior one. Therefore, despite the fact that he spends the most of the first cour’s 11 episodes in a child’s body, he is guilty of sexual misbehavior.
This criticism was addressed by author Rifujin na Magonote, who claimed that while Rudeus had an adult’s understanding from the moment he entered the magical Six-Faced world, he hadn’t yet fully acclimated to it. As a result, the world’s nature had led him to view those around him more like RPG characters before he had learned to live in it. To be honest, Mushoku Tensei’s environment may somewhat resemble a video game, but to me, this is irrelevant.
It is much more difficult to discuss Rudeus’ improper sexual behavior given that he thinks like an adult. The ladies he hangs out with are either somewhat older or around the same age as his kid self, but since they are still children and he only has a child’s physique, his behavior is wholly wrong.
Due to the charge of immorality
Due to the charge of immorality, Bilibili in China halted the anime as a result. The fact that Rudeus’ father cheated on his pregnant mother with their maid in one of the initial episodes and that Rudeus ultimately persuaded his mother to accept this condition does not improve the perception.
The cliché of perverse male anime characters is a worn-out one, even while banning a work is obviously an extreme action that would most certainly merely make people intrigued about such work — not to mention the question of whether censoring is ever acceptable. New works like Wonder Egg Priority, which also aired in Winter 2021 and dealt with sensitive subjects, demonstrate that anime can and should do better. Some anime haven’t always been the most sensitive about taboo issues, frequently playing things for laughs.
