1982 marked the beginning of Buffer’s career as a ring announcer. By 1983, he was announcing all boxing matches promoted by Bob Arum’s Top Rank on ESPN, which gave him a national identity at a time when ring announcers were only hired locally.

By the late 1980s, Buffer was the sole ring announcer for all fights in casinos owned by Donald Trump. His work was praised by several boxing legends. Sugar Ray Leonard famously remarked to the referee, “Introducing a fighter makes him want to fight.”

Prior to the organization’s dissolution in 2001, he was the exclusive ring announcer for World Championship Wrestling main events featuring Hulk Hogan or other top WCW talent. In 2018, Buffer signed a contract with DAZN to serve as ring announcer for all of its boxing broadcasts, including deals with Matchroom and Canelo lvarez.

Michael Buffer Net Worth

American boxing announcer and entrepreneur Michael Buffer has a net worth of $400 million. Michael Buffer is widely regarded as one of, if not the, finest ring announcers in the history of boxing and wrestling.

Michael Buffer achieved international renown when he coined the tagline “Let’s Get Ready to Rumble,” which he used to introduce the majority of big boxing contests. Michael shrewdly copyrighted his famous term, as explained in the next section. Michael has made hundreds of millions of dollars in royalties from this trademark over the years.

Trademark and Video Game Earnings

Michael’s long-lost half-brother, the future UFC announcer Bruce Buffer, suggested that he register his catchphrase “Let’s get ready to rumble!” as a trademark. Bruce came up with the idea after learning that NBA coach Pat Riley made a fortune by trademarking the term “threepeat.”

Due to Michael’s ownership of the trademark, anyone who wishes to use the phrase must pay him. Michael has licensed the phrase for use in songs, video games, movies, television shows, and an abundance of merchandise since 1992.

“Ready to Rumble” was one of the most well-known licensing agreements. After the game was a massive success, Midway reportedly paid $100 million to license Buffer’s phrase forever. Not bad for a failed actor turned boxing commentator.
