One of the top soul singers of his period, Hall had a number of Billboard chart hits in the 1970s and the early 1980s. Daryls pipes were a miracle, as guitarist Robert Fripp once said about working with him in the late 1970s and early 1980s. A more skilled singer has never been used by me.

He wed Amanda Aspinall, the heiress to the British gambling tycoon John Aspinall, in 2009. In 2015, they got divorced. Hall and Andrea Zabloski are the parents of Darren Hall, a son, who is their only biological child.
