Amy Schumer Controversy: Comedians have spoken out against Will Smith’s slap on Chris at the Oscars, which has sparked a backlash from other celebs. While hosting this year’s Academy Awards, Amy Schumer said that she was not permitted to make light of some themes.
A list of jokes referencing Joe Rogan, James Franco’s sex scandal, and Alec Baldwin’s shooting incident was suggested to Schumer by her lawyer at the Mirage Theater in Las Vegas on Saturday, according to Vanity Fair.
He quipped, “More like don’t stare down the barrel of Alec Baldwin’s shotgun” when asked whether the title of a film was “Don’t Look Up.” She went on to say that “you can simply walk up and [slap] someone” if she couldn’t make these jokes.
Schumer also alluded to Smith as “Ali,” a reference to his depiction of boxer Muhammed Ali, during her 2 April stand-up routine. The Hitch actor was also referred to as “a fucking disappointment” by the comic. Schumer also said on social media that Smith’s slap on Rock had “triggered and disturbed” her immediately before her comedy act. Despite her pride in hosting this year’s Oscars, she said she was still waiting for the “sickening feeling” to subside.
