McKayla Maroney, a former Olympic gold medalist, is an adult today and prepared to confront online bullies. Maroney, who gained notoriety after competing with the “Fierce Five” at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, clears the air about those rumors of lip injections in an exclusive interview with ET’s Lauren Zima at The Dub Room Studio in Los Angeles.
What Makes People Believe Mckayla Maroney Has Undergoed Plastic Surgery?
The gymnast’s facial characteristics are clearly different in 2021 than they were in 2012 when Maroney first entered the public limelight. Keep in mind that McKayla’s gold medal victory was almost ten years ago, and it’s possible that puberty and simply growing older may have had an effect on her appearance.
Only 25 years old today, the gymnast was 16 years old in 2012. Fans have, however, noted slight face changes over the years that might be attributed to cosmetic treatments. Maroney has bigger, plumper lips in 2021. The athlete also has a slightly more pronounced nose.
Has the Gymnast Addressed Theories About Cosmetic Surgery?
McKayla Moroney routinely addresses rumors of plastic surgery and refutes any procedures. Maroney reportedly wrote in 2012, “I absolutely see why people are unhappy with me ‘changing,’ I get it.. but if I can guarantee you one thing, it’s that I will never stop evolving,’ to quietly put an end to the rumors. Life is all about developing, changing, and becoming increasingly more of yourself.
And that’s all I’ve been doing for the past couple of years! You can love me or detest me for it because I’ve finally come to the realization of who I am and what I want from life. In any case, I love you and wish you the best because a real role model is someone who has the confidence to be who they are without worrying about what other people say. If I can even just persuade one person to live that way, then I’ve done my duty in this world. #KeepSmiling.
McKayla later admitted to Seventeen in 2016: “First of all, that I haven’t. And last night, I shared a photo on Instagram in which I asked: “How can I make my face look like I didn’t do anything to my face when I literally have not done anything to my face?”
It’s difficult to grow up in the world of social media. Your face changes as you age fill out, and you start to prefer makeup and other such things. And the majority of the time, when people say things like that, it makes me feel like you haven’t done anything.
